Busy couples slide into pure logistics without choosing it. The fix is not more romance. It is treating the couple as an entity in its own right, and feeding it like one.
I realise reading your post that we have been nurturing our couple instinctively (once a week evening together, going away for a few days, sometimes only one night in a hotel in the same country! and talking, looking at each other) during our 30 plus years of marriage, raising 3 kids together with demanding jobs. I would add creating a home (the place, beautiful, to our taste) that we both loved and considered our base. When we were coming home at night, on the way we used to call each other and talk for a bit, ending the conversation by « I’m coming back to base ».
Thank you Véronique, thirty years and three kids with demanding jobs is the best proof of all this. The call on the way home is a great detail, you arrive already back with each other, not just back in the same house. And the home as a shared base is a good addition to what I wrote. I might borrow "coming back to base" 😉
